What can you expect?

It’s a rare opportunity to work with all of us, get handouts and mp3 practice files; as well as links to the recorded sessions when it’s all over.

This online webinar style event will cover the ins and outs of blues harmonica improvisation taught by some of the top blues harp teachers in the world. Search for examples of their shorter lessons on YouTube to check out their teaching styles. One of the missions of the summit is to connect players from around the globe; players who might otherwise not be able to attend an in-person workshop. We want to provide an opportunity for anyone, anywhere in the world, to attend such an event. This historic teaching opportunity is the first of its kind and we hope you will join us!

  • Learn from the comfort of your own home or any location that has a decent internet connection.
  • Insight and instruction centered around 4 distinct approaches to tackling blues harmonica improvisation from 4 unique teaching perspectives.
  • Can’t make the entire day? No problem. You will receive a link, after the event has ended, to view a recorded version of the webinar.
  • If you have questions, feel free to reply to this email so we can take care of any concerns you might have. Technology requirements are very limited so even novice computer folks can join.

Schedule & Class Descriptions

Kim and I had a nice chat on the phone about the upcoming summit. I explained that this forum is an educational platform for blues harmonica where players/teachers share insight on various blues harp topics. So, I had to ask him the question, “Kim, are you OK with me asking you specifics about how you approach the instrument and music? What’s off limits? Without hesitation, he said “sure, no problem. ask me whatever.”  So, this summit will be a bit different, format-wise, from past summits. Kim will be the sole featured artist so we can really dig in and focus on him.

Summit Details

Session 1 : Interview

This will be an interview style session where I ask questions to direct the conversation so Kim can freely discuss. I plan on asking a mix of questions ranging from his early experiences with some of the great blues heroes of all time: Muddy Waters, Otis Spann, Luther Tucker etc, but I will also focus on harmonica specific questions so don’t worry! This will not be a typical interview, as I plan on preparing some questions to extract insight relating to the technical side of Kim’s harmonica playing; as well as the musical choices that he makes. There is so much to explore that I’ll be spending a great deal of time really considering the areas that will be of most interest to the majority of players out there.

Session 2 : Q&A

I have reserved the last portion of the summit, as usual, for the Q&A.  You will have an opportunity to submit your own questions. It is possible/likely that we will not have time to get through everyone’s questions but we will do our best to keep things moving along.  If Kim Wilson were headed to your hometown to give a talk on blues harmonica, would you be there? Tuning in live from the comfort of your own home is the next best thing, some would say even better.  I’m not sure what else to say except…don’t miss this one!
