Learn some great slide guitar riffs on the harmonica. We will use G, A, Bb, C and D harmonicas but if you are missing one of these keys (like Bb) rest assured that I will demonstrate some of the riffs in multiple harmonica keys. All of the riffs are played in cross harp/2nd position.
We will be examining players such as Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson and possibly some Mississippi players in the mix such as R.L. Burnside and Mississippi Fred McDowell. We will first begin by discussing some techniques that you can use to give you more of that slide guitar sound and feel. From there, we will dive into some well known songs covering intros, some riffs from the solo or possibly a repeating line found in the song.
Slide guitar and blues harmonica have the ability to produce similar sounds so it makes sense to interpret or translate some of these ideas from slide to harp. We will do some light listening in class as we work through a handful of really cool slide guitar riffs that fit well for blues harp!
